I made KidScreen for my two daughters. They each have their own iPad, and I wanted them to have separate video shelves with only the YouTube videos I chose for them. Children today are surrounded by algorithmic feeds designed to keep them watching and pull them from one video to the next. KidScreen is my attempt to take some control back, because I believe choosing what my children watch is my responsibility as a parent.

It is simple: I create one family, add my children, and paste YouTube links into each child's shelf. Each child has their own login and sees only their own videos. There is no search or endless feed. A video is there because a parent added it.

YouTube has a lot of useful, interesting, and educational content that I want to share with my children. KidScreen lets me share it without handing over what comes next to an algorithm.

In my own setup, KidScreen lives on each iPad's Home Screen as a web app. I use Screen Time to block regular YouTube and other video sources. KidScreen is a web app, not a native mobile or TV app, and it does not download videos for offline use.
